STA Junior Lifeguard Academy
The STA Junior Lifeguard Academy programme at the moment is offered to children in our advanced classes (ASA/Swim England Stage 7 or STA Shark). The Junior Lifeguard Academy offers so many fun elements around the core programme which is lifesaving based. We currently have 3 classes running, one at the Towers School at 6.45pm – 7.30pm and 2 on a Sunday Junior JLA class at 8.45am – 9.30am & the Senior JLA class at 9.15am – 10.00am at Handcross Park School.
Here are some of the things we cover but there are lots more:
- Junior Medic 1 & 2
- Lifesaving, Water Polo
- Competitive Starts
- Turns ready for club swimming and so on
You can read more about the the Junior Lifeguard Academy on the STA website.
STA Junior Medic Programme 1 & 2 classes and the roll out of this course in Schools in West Sussex
The STA launched this Programme in 2014 and I am now working with Schools to roll out the Junior Medic 1 & 2 over the next few years as an after school club or during the day or breakfast club.
I am also looking to run these courses independently in Village Halls and classrooms. My team has already done this as part of the Junior Lifeguard Academy criteria on a Sunday morning at Handcross Park School pool which was held for 6 weeks.
The Junior Medic course covers things like:
- Strains & sprains
- Heart Attacks
- Stroke and so much more
The children will learn the basics of First Aid and what to do in the case of an emergency! The course is made up of two certificates with two worksheets which need to be completed to be awarded the Junior Medic 1 & 2.
